Veramaris targets growth in Europe with hire of pet food ingredients sales expert

Animal nutrition company Veramaris, whose ASC-MSC certified EPA & DHA Omega-3 algal oil is making an impact in both pet nutrition and aquaculture, has made a move that will see it strengthen its position in the pet food market in Europe.
Jean-François Laudouze joins as Global Business Development Manager, Companion Animals for Veramaris Pets, following the launch of the sustainable Omega-3 algal oil into the pet food industry in July 2020.
After initial sales in the US and Canada, Veramaris Pets was introduced to the global market. With demand in Europe expected to grow significantly in 2022, the company is building a team of experts to focus on developing business in key markets with Laudouze in Europe.
Laudouze was previously EMEA Sales Director at Diana Pet Food, a leading supplier of high value solutions for the pet industry.
Commenting on his appointment, Jean-Francois Laudouze said: “It’s a pivotal time for Veramaris and its Pets business. I believe there is huge long term potential for Veramaris to grow within the European pet food industry. I am delighted to be joining a team with very ambitious plans.”
Veramaris’ CEO Karim Kurmaly said: “Sustainability is increasingly a key driver for purchasing decisions in the pet food market and Veramaris Pets offers not just a sustainable solution but also enables pet food companies to deliver a nutritious and healthy product with high levels of both EPA & DHA Omega-3.
“Pet ownership has increased significantly since the pandemic which has led to a huge demand for pet food. Europe is a key growth market and Jean-Francois will play an important role in communicating the benefits of an algae-based source of Omega-3 to responsible pet food brands.”
Jeff Alix, Veramaris’ Head of Global Business Development, Companion Animals said: “We are delighted to add Jean-Francois Laudouze to our global pet team. He brings a broad range of knowledge and experience regarding the dynamic pet food value chain, especially in Europe. A very welcome team member.”

About Veramaris
Veramaris, headquartered in Delft, The Netherlands, is a joint venture between DSM and Evonik, both world leaders in science and specialty chemicals. Established in 2018, Veramaris was formed to help realise a vision to conserve natural marine life by using the ocean's own resource, natural marine algae, to sustainably expand the world's access to Omega-3.
Veramaris extracts oil from natural marine algae, rich in both the essential Omega-3 fatty acids EPA & DHA, and also ARA, a long chain Omega-6, vital nutrients for improved brain, heart and eye health in both animals and humans.
The zero-waste industrial scale production process runs at a state-of-the-art site in Blair, Nebraska, USA.
Veramaris enables key stakeholders in aquaculture and pet nutrition to become independent of wild-caught fish and meet the growing demand for sustainable seafood and animal protein.
